Swimming And Diving Team Earns Academic Honors

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The University of Illinois women's swimming and diving squad received an Academic-All America Team Award from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. The UI squad ranked fourth nationally with a team GPA of 3.472 on a 4.0 scale. To be eligible for the award, the entire team must have a cumulative GPA of 2.80 or greater on a 4.0 scale. The team must also have one or more athletes receive Academic All-America honors. The highest GPA was a 3.507 by the team from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Four Illinois swimmers were named Honorable Mention All-Academic Team members. Emily Wang's GPA of 3.939 was the fourth-highest GPA among American college swimmers. Darcy Adler (3.654), Jen Peters (3.625) and Kathy Kielty (3.523) were also named to the squad. To receive individual honors an athlete must qualify for national competition and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher through 24 or more academic hours.
