Senior-to-be Barbie Viney will represent the Fighting Illini at the ConocoPhillips National Championships and USA Team Trials August 1-5 in Irvine, Calif. Viney will be swimming the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle events.
The meet will serve as a selection meet for five international teams that will swim at the 2006 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships, 2007 FINA World Championships, 2007 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, 2007 World University Games and 2007 Pan American Games.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for Barbie to continue to gain experience in long-course meters and competing against the best swimmers in the country," Illinois coach Sue Novitsky said.
