CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - A little over one month after finishing third in the 200-yard backstroke at the Phillips 66 National Championships, Illinois junior Jessica Aveyard decided to forfeit her bid to the World University Games in order to accept an invitation to the FINA World Swimming Championships.

The top two finishers at the Phillips 66 National Championships were invited to represent the United States at the FINA World Swimming Championships. Second place finisher Lindsay Banko withdrew from the 200-yard backstroke competition at the World Championships prompting USA Swimming officials to extend the invitation to Aveyard.

"I'm excited," Aveyard said. " It's a great opportunity to compete at the international level, and I've never done that before. It should be an eye-opening experience."

The FINA World Swimming Championships will be held in Sukuoka, Japan on July 22-29.
