CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Seniors Keri Eberhardt and Darragh McDermott and sophomore Erika Murphy will represent the Fighting Illini this week at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, March 14-16 in West Lafayette, Ind. The three-meter competition takes place on Thursday, followed by the one-meter dive on Friday and platform diving on Saturday. Action begins each day at Noon CT.
"At this point in the season, everyone is pretty comfortable with their dive lists and can perform their dives at a high level, so it's more a matter of competing," Illini diving coach Chris Waters said. "That is, trusting your training, using the knowledge gained from previous meets, enjoying the experience of such a terrific meet and above all else, believing in yourself and your abilities."
McDermott and Eberhardt have earned spots in the one-meter dive competition for the second straight season, while this marks Murphy's first trip to the Diving Championships. McDermott scored a season high of 273.66 in the one-meter dive against Iowa State, while Eberhardt (250.35) and Murphy (259.55) earned their season highs at the Minnesota Challenge.
Both McDermott and Eberhardt also qualified for the three-meter event. Eberhardt secured her season-best score of 273.30 in the three-meter dive against Nebraska, while McDermott (264.45) earned her season high against Michigan State.
