Three Illini Swimmers Earn Invitations to NCAA Championships

The NCAA sent out the invitations to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships today. Three Illinois swimmers were included among the list of competitors.
Junior Jessica Aveyard will compete for the second straight year. Her season best time of 1:57.66 in the 200 backstroke was the 10th fastest qualifying time in the event. Her provisional times of 4:53.58 in the 500 yard freestyle and 1:50.29 in the 200 freestyle were also fast enough to include her on the list of competitors.
Senior Anna Christiansen is also slated to compete in several events. The All-Big Ten athlete qualified in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:01.88. Christiansen, who has competed in two NCAA Championships during her career, was also on the list of competitors in the 400 individual medley (4:17.92) and the 200 breaststroke (2:15.10).
Sophomore Alison Czmarko earned her first invitation to the NCAA Championships. She set a school record of 55.25 in the 100 backstroke to qualify for the national competition. She will join Aveyard in the 200 backstroke as well after qualifying with a time of 2:00.26.
The NCAA Championships will be held in Long Island, N.Y. March 15-17.
