CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Fighting Illini swimming and diving team earned the Fall 2011 Scholar All-America Team Award, which is given annually by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America each semester to teams that maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Illinois tied for the ninth-highest GPA among women's Division I swimming and diving teams with a 3.48 GPA.

"I am extremely proud of the hard work and effort that the swimmers and divers put into their academics and athletics each day," Illini head coach Sue Novitsky said. "It is not an easy schedule having to be at the pool before 6 a.m. six days per week and most days twice a day, and yet the athletes still manage to take care of their responsibilities. I am very grateful to the terrific staff at the Irwin Academic Center, specifically Melinda McCormick, our academic counselor, for their help and guidance. In addition, the support from the administration in providing the resources for our athletes to succeed is phenomenal."
