Jan. 17, 2014
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Fighting Illini swimming and diving team will host the sixth annual Splash Bash this Monday, Jan. 20 in room MP6 of the ARC. The beach-themed carnival begins at 1 p.m. CT and will run throughoutIllinois' dual meet with Southern Illinois and Olivet Nazarene, which begins at 2 p.m.
Splash Bash 2014, presented by WCIA, will feature free snacks, carnival games, a photo booth, and prizes. Admission and parking will be free.
"There is going to be so much for everyone to do while the teams are warming-up at the carnival with games, food and more," head coach Sue Novitsky said. "I want to thank WCIA for sponsoring this event and getting people out to see the swimmers and divers."
Fans can enjoy Splash Bash while watching Illinois compete in what should be a close dual meet. The Illini will be entering the home meet on short rest to complete in their third meet in four days. In their last meeting, Illinois lost a tight meet at home, 151.5-147.5, to the Southern Illinois Salukis in 2012. The Illini will face Olivet Nazarene for the first time.
In the last home meet of the season, the Illini will look to continue their impressive home success, where they boast a 2-0-1 record.
"It is exciting to have the Splash Bash again and have the team be able to compete in front of a large crowd," Novitsky said. "We are looking to set an attendance record and with a huge Illini crowd in the stands it can only help fire up the team."
