CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Fighting Illini swimming and diving team will host its fifth annual Splash Bash event this Saturday in room MP6 of the ARC. Festivities begin at 11 a.m. CT and will run throughout Illinois' Big Ten showdown with Iowa, which also begins at 11 a.m.
Splash Bash 2013, presented by FOX 55/27, will feature free snacks, carnival games and vouchers for one free goldfish from Sailfin Pet Shop for the first 100 kids in attendance. Open swim will follow the meet if time permits. Admission and parking are free.
"Splash Bash helps give our program some recognition and brings in some fans of Illinois athletics and swimming and diving," head coach Sue Novitsky said. "I also hope it will help make some of the younger kids in the crowd want to start swimming or diving themselves, whether it be learning to swim or joining a team."
Fans can enjoy the Splash Bash festivities while watching Illinois battle the Hawkeyes from room MP6, which overlooks the ARC Pool. The Illini possess a 14-10 all-time record against Iowa and will look to avenge last year's 195.5-102.5 loss to the Hawkeyes. The Illini also will be in action on Friday night, taking on Iowa State at 6 p.m.
"I believe that we can compete and have a battle all the way through the meet," Novitsky said. "I hope that the fans bring the energy and make it loud in the pool."
