The University of Illinois swimming and diving team defeated Michigan State, 186-114, this morning on the Michigan State campus. With the win, Illinois improves to 6-3 overall on the season and 2-2 in the Big Ten.

Illini swimmers Nicola Homenock, Jen Peters and Emily Wang each scored double victories for Illinois in leading the team to victory. Homenock took the 200 fly (2:02.27) and the 100 fly (57.84), Wang won the 200 free (1:52.68) and 100 free (52:58) and Peters was first in both the 1000 free (10:22.14) and 500 free (5:06.95).

In total, Illinois won 11 of 16 events, including 11 of 14 swimming events. Additional Illinois first-place finishes came in the 200 medley relay (Traci Bollinger, Darcy Adler, Molly Busch, Emily Wang/1:47.83), Adler in the 100 breast (1:05.26), Kathy Kielty in the 200 back (2:06.04), Anna Christiansen in the 200 IM (2:09.66) and the 400 free relay of Wang, Bollinger, Homenock and Marcie Black (3:32.48).

"We had some really nice swims that came under challenging circumstances with all of the travel we did this weekend," Illini Head Coach Jim Lutz said. "We aren't real sharp right now and are having trouble getting out on races because we're tired, but overall I'm pretty pleased because the fact that we were able to come out and win races is a testament to our ability to come back. And it's always nice to be able to come back from a trip with a couple of wins."

Illinois is off until after Thanksgiving when the team returns to its home turf for a pair of dual meets against the University of Iowa, Dec. 4-5 at IMPE Pool.
