Illini Third at NU Relays
The University of Illinois Swimming and Diving team placed third at the Northwestern Relays held this afternoon at Northwestern University. Michigan (206) and Northwestern (178) were one-two, while Illinois scored 162 points to assure the third spot.
The standings were rounded out by Michigan State (134), Toledo (92), Northern Illinois (80), Wisconsin-Green Bay (80), Wisconsin-Milwaukee (44) and Illinois-Chicago (40).
Illinois' 1500 freestyle relay team won its event, as Nicola Homenock, Kelly Handel and Jen Peters combined to go 15:10.44 to finish ahead of Michigan (15:19.23) and Northwestern (15:26.40).
The 300 butterfly team came up with a second-place finish behind the Wolverines. Homenock, Natasha Messmer and Anna Christiansen posted a time of 2:51.24. Also coming in second was the 800 free team of Emily Wang, Homenock, Allison Olech and Anna Christiansen who swam a 7:37.13, the 500 free team of Traci Bollinger, Marcie Black, Wang and Homenock (4:34.82) and the 400 IM team of Wang, Christiansen, Noelle Wilhite and Jodi Smith (3:57.07).
Illinois next competes at the Illinois Dual Meet Extravaganza Friday-Sunday, Nov. 6-8 at the IMPE Pool. Illinois is scheduled to swim dual meets at 7:30 Friday night, 11 a.m. Saturday morning, 5 p.m. Friday evening and 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
