    After a three-week hiatus the Illinois Women's Swimming returned to action in the Ohio State Invitational at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. This three-day invite pits Illinois up against six conference teams including Minnesota, Penn State, Michigan State, Iowa, Purdue and Ohio State. The ten-team field also consists of Kenyon College, Arizona State, Miami (Fla.) and Florida.

    After Friday's preliminaries, final action consisted of a first place finish by Barbie Viney in the 50 free with a NCAA provisional B qualifying time of 23.40. With her time, Viney also broke the pool record swam this year held by Kaitlyn Brady of Michigan. In B-final standings of the 50 free Meghan Farrell finished 10th in a time of 24:00. The 200 freestyle relay set a season best time of 1:51.51 and placed fifth consisting of Viney, Becca Poetz, Christina Brunka, and anchor Meghan Farrell.

    In preliminary action, Illinois diver Abbey Bernardo finished highest in 29th place and 187.95 points in the 1-meter. Marina Mendoza followed with a score of 179.25 and Jackie Bain with 155.85.

    The Illini face a tough field this weekend but improvements can be seen. After day one, 71% of Illinois swimmers had season best times including freshmen Lindsey Shirley and Jacqueline Murphy in the 500 freestyle.

    On Saturday, the Illini took sixth place finishes in both relay teams of the 800 free and 200 medley with a season best . In the 100 backstroke, Caroline Moore finished 13th at 59.74 and Meghan Farrell finishing 15th with a time of 1:00.22. Freshman Marissa Clapp swam well, picking up team points, finishing ninth in the 100 breast (1:06.10) and 11th in the 400 IM (4:31.78). Additionally, Barbie Viney captured fifth place in the 200 free with a time of 1:50:40.

    After day two of the Ohio State Invitational Illinois is in fifth place with 220 points.

    Preliminary rounds on Sunday begin at 10 a.m. with finals following at 3 p.m.
