WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Eight members of the Fighting Illini swimming and diving team competed at the Last Chance Meet Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind. Three freshmen posted personal bests, as the Orange and Blue swimmers wrapped up their 2011-12 campaign.
"Overall, it was a productive day at the pool," head coach Sue Novitsky said. "We had some lifetime best swims, which are always good to see. In addition, we had people making positive adjustments in their race strategy from last week. The swimmers will get a little break and then get back to work."
Freshman Megan Marchuk posted a personal best in the 500 free (5:08.24), while classmate Mary Beth Howard captured a personal best in the 200 IM (2:08.67). Fellow freshman Alison Meng added another lifetime best for the Orange and Blue with her performance in the 100 free (51.48).
Marchuk (53.42) and Howard (53.92) also participated in the 100 free, while Meng competed in the 100 back (55.91).
Freshman Kayla Dlugopolski made her Illini debut in the 100 free (57.31) and 200 IM (2:18.63), while classmate Alexa Chavez competed in the 100 free (54.16) and 200 free (1:58.04) for the first time in her collegiate career and participated in the 50 free (25.48) as well.
Fellow freshman Hailey Booth (2:09.23 - 200 IM, 1:54.97 - 200 free), junior Sarah Coady (1:06.09 - 100 breast, 55.39 - 100 free) and classmate Alyssa Petruzzello (25.03 - 50 free, 56.95 - 100 fly) also competed in the meet.
