Incoming Freshman Takes Home Player of the Year Honor

CHICAGO - Illinois softball incoming-freshman Kylie Johnson earned the 2012 Chicago Tribune Softball Player of the Year award recently, following the conclusion of an outstanding senior season with Kankakee High School. Johnson was also given the same laurel from the Kankakee Daily Journal, while simultaneously securing spots on the All-Southland Athletic Conference and All-Daily Journal teams.
Kankakee tallied the first regional championship in program history on Saturday, May 26, 2012, while Johnson finished the season batting .735 with 111 hits, 79 stolen bases and 36 RBIs. For the outfielder's career, Johnson totaled 192 steals in 195 attempts, ranked first in the state of Illinois with 259 career hits and a .646 batting average over four years. Johnson also finished second in state history with 223 runs scored while her stolen base numbers rank third all-time in Illinois.
