URBANA, Ill.-- Two Illini softball players have been named the All-Big Ten third team, the conference office announced today - Junior Jenna Hall (Channahon, Ill./Minnoka H.S.) and freshman Shanna Diller (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community H.S.) were honored by the conference.

Hall, a First Team All-Big Ten Conference first baseman in each of her first two seasons, was caught at the same position as arguably the two best players in the conference this year. Garland Cooper of Northwestern earned the Big Ten Player of the Year honors while Michigan rookie sensation Samantha Findlay earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Hall, who was walked a school-record 36 times this year, eight intentionally, made the most of her time at the plate, hitting nine home runs and breaking the Illini single-season RBI record with 43. The final four came on a grand slam in the season final at Iowa as Illinois knocked off No 18 Iowa, 8-7. This season Hall batted .343 with eight doubles and a .604 slugging percentage. With one season to play, Hall's 20 career home runs are four off the all-time mark of 24 set by Erin Montgomery and her 104 RBI are just seven shy of Montgomery.

Diller had one of the best freshman seasons in the short Illini history with freshman records for home runs (7) and RBI (39). She has started every game for the Illini - 22 at shortstop and 28 at third base. Diller hit a key two-run home run in a 5-3 upset of #5 LSU at the UNLV Desert Classic and posted the second longest hitting streak in school history, hitting safely in 11 straight from Feb. 12-March 12. Diller batted .284 for the season with eight doubles and a .480 slugging percentage.

Illinois finished the season 24-26 overall.
