CHAMPAIGN, ILL. - Illinois softball moved up in the national polls this week, coming in at No. 17 in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25. The Illini have held the No. 18 spot for the past five weeks after entering the polls at No. 21 on March 2. The Illini are also ranked No. 17 in the ESPN/USA Softball Top 25.
The Orange and Blue took the sweep over Michigan State last weekend, winning 11-1 and 5-0. Pitchers Monica Perry and Pepper Gay teamed up to lead the Illini to a 37-5 record overall, 10-2 Big Ten. The duo allowed only seven hits from the Spartans in both games combined.
Next up, the Fighting Illini take on the Iowa Hawkeyes at Eichelberger Field in a doubleheader on Wednesday, May 5 at 5 p.m.
