Armstrong leads the Big Ten in Slugging and On-Base Percentage

Urbana, Ill. - Illinois sophomore catcher Lana Armstrong has been named co-Big Ten Player of the Week. She shares the honor with Kara Weigle from Michigan State.
Armstrong batted .450 (9-for-20) with four home runs and two doubles last week to share Player of the Week accolades. In an 18-4 win over Illinois-Chicago, the sophomore catcher went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, while tallying four RBI. Armstrong notched her ninth home run of the season in a 3-2 victory over Longwood. She closed out the week, registering a 1.150 slugging percentage.
Armstrong ranks in the top five in nine different offensive statistical categories in the Big Ten Conference. She leads the Big Ten in slugging and on-base percentage with .897 and .556 respectively. Her .460 batting average ranks second. She is tied for second in runs scored (35) with fellow teammates Shanna Diller and Angelena Mexicano. Her 36 RBI's and 9 home runs are each third best in the conference. Armstrong is also fourth in total bases with 78, fifth in doubles with 9, and fifth in walks with 18.
Armstrong hit in an Illinois record 18 straight games this year.
Illinois takes a 21-12 record to Chicago on Wednesday to face Loyola in a doubleheader. The Illini will begin Big Ten Conference play on Friday as they travel to West Lafayette, Indiana to face Purdue.
