CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Fighting Illini softball team will allow fans to help select the musical guest for World's Largest Softball Tailgate IX with the Like It To See It Live Band Battle, announced on Thursday. Videos of each musical artist will be posted on Facebook and sent out via Twitter for fans to "Like" to select their favorite. The three musicians with the highest total positive feedback will be named the finalists, with Illinois players and coaches and DIA administrators voting on the overall winner.
Interested musicians should submit a video of a song performance to marketing coordinator Brooke Buzard (217-333-8782 or firstname.lastname@example.org) prior to the conclusion of voting on Wednesday, April 18 at 5 p.m. CT. After being approved for content, each will be distributed through official Illinois softball social media platforms individually, with the finalists announced on Thursday, April 19 and the winner revealed on Saturday, April 21. The chosen band will perform for the fans outside Eichelberger Field for one hour and 15 minutes during World's Largest Tailgate IX festivities, from 11:15 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. on May 5, with the stage and sound equipment provided.
World's Largest Softball Tailgate: The World's Largest Softball Tailgate allows Fighting Illini softball fans and Urbana-Champaign community members the chance to fire up their grills and enjoy their favorite tailgating rituals in conjunction with Illinois athletics during the spring. Since its inception in 2004, more than 7,700 total fans have come out to Eichelberger Field to support the Orange and Blue, including crowds of more than 1,000 on four occasions and the single-game program record of 1,445 fans during the 2007 event. Parking and admission to the contests are free.
