URBANA, Ill. - Illinois softball won its second fall game of the weekend by a score of 10-0, defeating Kankakee on Sunday at Eichelberger Field. On Friday, the Illini beat Lakeland 10-0. Left fielder Hope Howell provided the heroics for the Orange and Blue today, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and a home run.

The Illini first got on the board in the third inning, with four runs scored with two outs. Center fielder Nikki Simpson singled and then scored on an error, while second baseman Danielle Zymkowitz hit a double down the right field line and scored when third baseman Kelley Wedel walked with the bases loaded. Designated player Audrey Gallien next singled to center field, hitting in two runs to make the score 4-0.

Illinois added three more runs in the fourth, with Simpson making the score 5-0 after hitting in shortstop Ashley Conrad. Howell got her home run after Zymkowitz tripled to right field, adding two RBI and increasing the Illini lead to 7-0.

The final runs of the game were scored in the fifth, with Howell getting two more RBI with a single that hit in Gabe Gavoni and Bailey Behrens. Gavoni also added an RBI of her own in the 10-0 Illinois win.

Freshman Pepper Gay got the win, pitching two innings and striking out two. Jackie Guy, Ashley Wright and Christine Christopoulos also took the mound for the Orange and Blue.

Next up in the fall season, Illinois hosts Parkland at Eichelberger Field on Friday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m.
