    Urbana, Ill. - Illinois softball opened its fall season with 14-3 victory over Parkland College at Eichelberger Field Friday night. The Illini got 16 hits and scored multiple runs in five of their six at-bats.

    Jenna Hall had a big night offensively, going 3-for-3 with a double, three RBI, an intentional walk, and a deep home run to center field. Designated player Kisten Martin also had three hits, going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored.

    Freshman pitcher Kacey Coonce faced one more than the minimum in five shutout innings of work, striking out three while scattering three hits.

    Illinois batted .500 on the night and came out swinging at the first pitch most of the night. The Illini had four straight doubles in the first inning, including run-scoring two baggers from Hall and Coonce (2-for-3, 2 RBI) to go ahead 3-0.

    The Illini added two more runs in the second with the big blow coming from Molly Lawhead, who doubled to left, scoring Laura Zobrist. Hall's two-run home run in the fourth made it 7-0 after four. Brittany Koester's RBI triple and Kristin Schnake's (2-for-2, two RBI) run scoring single made it 9-0. Angelena Mexicano's two-run double highlighted a five-run sixth. Rachelle Coriddi (2-for-3, three runs) also had two hits.

    Illinois plays its Second Annual Alumni Game on Sunday. First pitch is noon at Eichelberger Field.
