Clearwater(FL)- After a blistering 20 hit day yesterday the Illini struggled to string hits together on the second day of pool play against Central Michigan. Although out hitting the Chippewas 6-3 the Illini dropped their third game of pool play 0-1.
Central Michigan struck first in the top of the second when Christin Sobeck doubled in Jacque Benedict who got on my drawing a walk, stealing second and advancing to third on a long fly ball to centerfield. In the end, the lone run was all Central Michigan needed.
Despite the loss, pitcher Mary Miller went the distance for the Illini pitching an impressive game, allowing only three hits and one run while striking out six and walking one. The loss dropped Miller to 5-3-0 on the season.
Jenna Hall went 2-for-3 on the day but the Illini couldn't put multiple hits together, leaving six runners on base.
Shanna Diller continued her hitting streak with a single in the first to extend her streak to 10 games.
The Fighting Illini finish pool play tomorrow against Southern Mississippi at 9 a.m. CT. Tournament play will begin tomorrow afternoon.
