Hurless Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week
Sept. 9, 2002 University of Illinois forward Tara Hurless was named the Big Ten Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her performances in two Illini victories over the weekend. Hurless scored the Fighting Illini's first two goals in a 4-2 win over Butler on Friday, Sept. 6. Then in Sunday's 3-0 win over #25 Cincinnati, Hurless scored the game-winning goal just 1:12 into the contest. She would later add another goal to seal the Illinois victory and to bring her season goal total to five. In 2001, Hurless was the team's second leading scorer with 10 goals and three assists.
Illinois is now 2-2 on the season following the two victories over the weekend. This weekend, the Illini travel to Fairfax, Va. to participate in the George Mason Invitataional. On Friday, Sept. 13, the orange and blue will take on William & Mary and then on Sunday, Sept. 15 the Illini will face George Mason.
