PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Redshirt-junior Jannelle Flaws was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career, announced the conference office Tuesday. The Glenview, Ill., native scored four goals on 13 shots in Illinois' pair of wins over the weekend, which included her first career hat trick on Sunday against Illinois State.
Flaws tallied the final goal on Friday in Illinois' 6-2 rout of College of Charleston, where UI notched its most goals ever in a home opener. On Sunday against ISU, she posted three goals, becoming the first Illini to record a hat trick since Niki Read against Ball State on Aug. 26, 2011. Flaws leads the Illini with five goals this season, which also is tied for first in the Big Ten. She has accounted for nearly a third of Illinois' 17 goals, the most in the Big Ten through four games.
Illinois' last Offensive Player of the Week was Vanessa DiBernardo on Oct. 29, 2012. DiBernardo will play for the U.S. Women's National Team tonight in a match against Mexico at RFK Stadium, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.
Up Next: Illinois (3-1) will head west for a pair of matches in Tempe, Ariz., this weekend. The Illini will take on Arizona State on Friday, Sept. 6 at 9 p.m. CT and Arizona on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. CT.
