Complete MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - University of Illinois midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo earned a spot on the 2011 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List, one of only six sophomores to receive recognition on the season-opening nomination. Along with being one of the few underclassmen chosen, DiBernardo is the only student-athlete from a school in the state of Illinois to earn a spot on the watch list.

The Big Ten Conference features five women's soccer players on the 2011 edition of the Hermann Watch List, tied for the second-most nominations in the country. Michigan State's Laura Heyboer, Nebraska's Morgan Marlborough, Ohio State's Paige Maxwell and Penn State's Christine Nairn join DiBernardo to round out the conference representation. The ACC features the most selections with nine, while the Big East, Pac-12 and SEC also earned five nominations.

DiBernardo has a rare connection with the award as well, despite 2011 being her first appearance on the watch list. DiBernardo's father, Angelo, received the Hermann Trophy as the top male collegiate soccer student-athlete at Indiana University in 1978.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer. Division-I program head coaches who are members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) select the recipients of the Hermann Trophy. A male and female MAC Hermann Trophy winner will be named on Jan. 6, 2012.
