Illini Announce 2014 Soccer Home Game Promotions
Aug. 14, 2014
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics announced a full slate of marketing promotions for the 2014 home season at the Illinois Soccer Stadium. The ninth-annual SoccerFest (Sept. 21), the Illini Soccer Paint Party (Sept. 18), 100 Kids vs. Illinois Soccer (Oct.12) and the Sunday Fan Zone are just a few highlights on this year's list of Fighting Illini soccer promotions. Admission and parking are free for all regular season home games.
The ninth-annual SoccerFest, the premier promotion for Fighting Illini soccer, will be held Sunday, Sept. 21, when Illinois hosts Purdue at 1 p.m. The event, which broke the home attendance record (2,667) at the inaugural Soccerfest in 2006, consistently draws crowds that rank in the top-10 in school history. This year's edition will feature free food for the first 1,000 fans compliments of Jimmy John's, the Sunday Fan Zone, a bounce house, postgame autographs and other fun activities.
During halftime of SoccerFest, local celebrities will face off in a Bumper Ballz Showdown. The inflatable Bumper Ballz, courtesy of Soccer Planet, offer a unique twist to the game of soccer, allowing players to bounce off one another while playing inside a protective bubble. Fans can get a sneak peek at the Bumper Ballz and try them out at the Sunday Soccer Fan Zone.
At every Sunday home game this year, a special Fan Zone will be set-up with special games for fans one hour prior to the match. Face painting, a juggling contest, penalty kick practice, a radar gun and Bumper Ballz will be available for fans.
When the Illini kick off Big Ten play at home against Indiana on Sept. 18, Illinois will offer a pre-game powder paint war for Illinois students and free food for the first 500 students.
Following the success of last year's event, the Orange and Blue will again host 100 Kids vs. Illinois Soccer. Kids eighth grade and younger are invited to play against the Illinois soccer team following the match against Minnesota on Oct. 12. The first 100 kids who sign up to play will receive a free t-shirt and the opportunity to participate in the post-match event on the field.
Kids also are able to celebrate their birthday at any home game this season. The party deal includes hot dogs, sodas, popcorns, posters and programs along with personalized cupcakes, reserved seating, an Illinois wristband, a birthday card signed by the team, a birthday announcement and the party gets to stand with the team during the national anthem. To reserve a birthday party, fans can fill out this order form and return it to the Illinois Marketing Office with payment at least one week before the selected home game.
Another perk for kids is the opportunity to be a Kid Captain at home games. Kid Captain gives members a chance to be announced during the game, help with the pre-game coin toss, watch warmups from the field, receive an Illini t-shirt and stand with the team for the national anthem.
Other promotions scheduled for this year include Welcome New Freshmen (Aug. 22), Kids Day/Youth Soccer Day/Girl Scout Day (Aug. 24), Local Heroes Night/Camper Reunion (Aug. 29), Trick or Treat with the Illini (Oct. 24) and Cancer Awareness Night (Oct. 26). Complete details on each event can be found on the Illinois Marketing and Promotions Schedule.
