BORLANGE, Sweden - Former Illini forward Ella Masar netted a pair of goals to lead the U.S. U-23 Women's National Team to a 3-0 victory over Germany to claim the Nordic Cup Championship. Masar and the U-23 team posted four consecutive shutouts in the tournament to earn the title for the second year in a row and 10th time in the last 12 years.

With the U.S. leading 1-0 midway through the first half, Masar added a goal in each half to seal the victory for the U.S. The Urbana, Ill., native notched her first goal in the 34th minute after taking a cross in the middle and rifling a shot into the corner of the net from 12 yards out. Masar clinched the game in the 63rd minute after picking up a through ball and outrunning two defenders before coolly finishing on the ground for the 3-0 win. The pair of goals marked Masar's second and third of the tournament, as she also tallied the game-winner against Norway in the semifinals.

Masar now returns to Washington, D.C., where she will rejoin the Washington Freedom of the W-League. The Freedom claimed the Northeast Division Championship and begin playoff action on Friday, July 25, in hopes of defending last year's W-League title.
