Ella Masar checks in with her first Nordic Cup experience in Finland.

    July 20, 2007

VASSA, Finland - Well, five days of my first Nordic Cup experience are over and the good news is that we have attained two W's. The bad news is that getting here might have been two of the longest days of my life. Cory Alexander (who plays with me on the Vancouver Whitecaps) and I had a two-hour delay from San Diego to JFK airport in New York and missed our first flight to Finland. We then had to sit in the lovely New York airport for four hours waiting for our hotel and then flew out the next night.

The last couple of days we have just been training and preparing ourselves for our first Nordic Cup game, which we won against Norway, 1-0, on Wednesday. I only played around forty minutes, but it still is amazing to think I am here. To be surrounded by such a gifted group of women and being able to train with them has really been an honor as well as a very humbling experience.

Overall, the trip has gone well. For the next couple of days we will just have training and be focusing for our next match on Monday against Sweden. I do have to admit that this whole summer Champaign-Urbana has ALWAYS been in the back of my mind. Don't get me wrong, the places I have seen and the traveling with the national team have been a dream. But nothing is ever quite like home!!!!
