ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Illinois soccer team battled the Missouri Tigers to a 1-1 tie on Saturday in a spring exhibition held in St. Louis, Mo. After Missouri scored an early goal in the first half, Illinois tied up the match in the second half on junior Krystin Miller's penalty kick, after junior Jordan Hilbrands was taken down in the penalty box.
"I thought it was a really good game for us," assistant coach Leisha Alcia said. "After coming off the game against the Red Stars, we came into this game wanting to prove ourselves. We came into it very confidently, created a lot of chances. We came out prepared and left it all on the field. For us, I think was a good step in the right direction."
The Illinois coaches were happy with how the offensive created opportunities in the final third.
"Creating chances was a positive for us," Alcia said. "The last game couple games we haven't been able to create the chances we were able to create today. I think we were really happy with our ability to create chances in the final third. The next step is to convert in the final third now, but it was good for us."
Illinois will finish up the remainder of their spring season with a double header verses Milwaukee and Marquette on April 24th. Illinois will play Marquette at 12 p.m. and then Milwaukee at 5: 30 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Illinois Soccer Stadium in Champaign.
