Freshman Emily Brown Records Hat Trick - 10/28/98
The University of Illinois soccer team defeated Washington University of St. Louis, 7-1, this evening at the UI Soccer Multiplex at First and Stadium Drive. Freshman Emily Brown recorded the first hat trick of her career and Kelly Buszkiewicz scored a total of five points with a goal and three assists.
Washington scored its first goal early when Lori Thomas connected at the 9:19 mark. Illinois responded in a big way, as freshman Lisa Baldwin scored two goals in a span of 35 seconds, at the 19:10 and 19:45 marks. The first half ended with a 3-1 Illinois lead following the first of Brown's goals at 25:07.
The second half was much the same, opening with a Brown goal at 65:11 and followed by goals from Missy Keeler, Brown and Kelly Buszkiewicz, in that order.
Brown finished her evening with seven points, Buszkiewicz tallied five (1 goal, 3 assists) and Baldwin four (2 goals). Illinois outshot the Bears, 19-5.
Illinois travels to Missouri Friday afternoon for a 4 p.m. match-up with the Tigers before hosting Oakland University Sunday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day. Illinois' lone senior, Sarah Aberle, will be honored prior to the contest.
