Illini Rally for Win over MSU

The University of Illinois soccer team defeated Michigan State University, 3-2, in double overtime this evening at the UI Soccer Fields at First and Stadium Drive.
Senior Sarah Aberle notched the winning goal 4:13 into the second overtime on an assist from freshman Emily Brown. The game-winner was Aberle's seventh of the season and second game-winning goal.
Michigan State opened scoring with two quick goals in the first half, with Gina Dawson connecting at the 17:35 mark and Laura Monticello putting the Spartans up, 2-0, at the 34:22 mark.
The Illini were scoreless until the 67:56 mark, when Illinois' Lindsay Johnson scored her first of two quick goals. Her second goal of the day and fifth of the season came at 74:03 and forced the overtime sessions.
Illinois is now 8-4 overall and 2-3 in the Big Ten. The Illini are back in action Sunday afternoon when the team hosts Michigan at 1 p.m. at the First and Stadium Multiplex.
