Illini Edged at Northwestern
The University of Illinois soccer team grabbed an early lead but was unable to hold on, as the host-Wildcats rallied for two goals to defeat the Illini 2-1 on Friday in Evanston.
Freshman Lisa Baldwin put the Illini ahead early with a goal off a Sarah Aberle assist at the 21:27 mark. Northwestern responded, as Erin Aubry scored on NU's first shot of the match at the 30:13 mark to knot the score at 1-1. NU's Christine Molitor put the hosts up for good at the 33:31 mark with a goal for a 2-1 lead. Both teams were scoreless in the second stanza as Northwestern held on for the 2-1 win.
Illinois is now 7-3, 1-2 in the Big Ten, and will be at Wisconsin on Sunday, Oct. 4.
