EIU Trips Illini on the Road
Head Coach Jillian Ellis' University of Illinois soccer team dropped a mid-week, in-state match to Eastern Illinois, 4-2, Wednesday afternoon in Charleston. The Illini jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first half off goals from Lisa Baldwin and Kim Doetzel before allowing four Eastern goals in the final stanza.
Illinois outshot the Panthers, 25-6, including a game-high four shots from both Baldwin and Lindsay Johnson. Freshman Sarah Heggen started in goal for Illinois for only the second time this season and allowed all four goals while notching one save.
The loss drops Illinois to 5-2 on the season. The Illini are 1-1 in conference play. Illinois returns to action this weekend as the team hosts Valparaiso at 1 p.m. Sunday at the First and Stadium Soccer Fields.
