Champaign, Ill. - The Fighting Illini women's soccer team tied Missouri, 2-2, in their final exhibition match of the fall season on Friday. Senior Jordan Hilbrands (Bexley, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls) and freshman Megan Pawloski (Belleville, Ill./Althoff Catholic) each recorded one goal on the day.
"We were going to get a high pressure, hard, physical game and that's good because that is the kind of test we wanted," said Illinois head coach Janet Rayfield of the Illini's match-up with Missouri.
The Tigers struck first in the 13th minute as Danielle Nottingham tallied the first of her two goals on the day and put Missouri ahead, 1-0. Nottingham recorded another tally in the second half to total the Tigers final goal of the contest.
Pawloski, a goal-scorer in Monday's contest with Indiana State, evened the score, 1-1, in the 28th minute on a cross from junior Marissa Mykines (Spokane, Wash./Mead). Pawloski received the pass inside the box and re-directed the ball on net with one touch.
"It doesn't matter what level you are at," said Rayfield of Pawloski's ability as a forward. "If you have a nose for the goal, you can find it. She has shown that she can get in there and find the back of the net and that is going to be very important for us."
After Nottingham's second tally pushed the Tigers to a one-goal lead for the second time during the contest, Hilbrands answered with her second in as many games to reach the final score of 2-2.
On the day, the Illini out shot the Tigers, 16-13, and totaled three corner kicks to Missouri's one. Tigers' goalies Jessica Gwin and Paula Pritzen combined to make eight saves with sophomore Steph Panozzo (Maple Ridge, British Columbia/Maple Ridge Secondary School) and senior Alexandra Kapicka (Arlington Heights, Ill./Illinois Math and Science Academy) each spent one half in net for the Illini, totaling five saves as a team.
