    Assistant Coach

Missy Price begins her third year as an assistant coach for the Fighting Illini, working primarily with the goalkeepers in addition to her administrative duties.

Under Price's guidance, Illinois continues to post better numbers in front of the net. Last season freshman Sarah Anderson set a school record with a goals against average of 0.98. She also recorded a school record five shutouts.

When Price joined the staff in 1999, she brought with her some impressive credentials. She played with Head Coach Tricia Taliaferro at Maryland, setting the Terrapins record for career shutouts (13). Price also ranks second in goals against average (1.24) and third in career saves (219) in Maryland history. During her senior season, she posted a 0.65 goals against average and tied a school-record with nine shutouts, while leading Maryland to a 19-5-2 record and a quarterfinal berth in the NCAA playoffs. That performance earned her third team All-Mid-Atlantic honors. Price graduated from Maryland in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiological science.

The Perkasie, Pa., native completed a master of education degree in sports psychology at the University of Virginia in 1999. She has also served as an assistant coach under April Heinrichs, who coached at Maryland for three of Price's playing years. In Price's two seasons at Virginia, the Cavaliers posted a 27-11-5 record and advanced to two NCAA tournaments. "I am extremely proud of our accomplishments here at Illinois," Price said. "I knew from the start that I was partaking in something special and working with the players, Tricia and our department has been tremendously rewarding. The environment is competitive and challenging, fostering our players to advance both as individuals and a team. You cannot teach desire and passion for the game, but it just rages here--it's something you want to experience."

"I have always been impressed with Missy's work ethic," noted Taliaferro. "She1s a great leader who has a very strong academic background in addition to being a sound goalkeeper."
