Hey Illini Fans!
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and are ready for the start of the New Year! I can tell you that we are all very excited for the New Year and the beginning of the 2010 season. The team returned to campus on Sunday after spending a week at home with our families. Everyone had a great break and was so happy to be able to get home and spend some time with their friends and family before the season rolls in. As much as we would all love to be back at home still, we can barely wait for this week to be over and our first meet to be here.
On Sunday the dormers moved back into the apartments with the upperclassmen like they did for Thanksgiving break. It is so much fun having everyone around all the time. Macy, Abbie, and Jaclyn are staying with the juniors; Kelsey, Hannah, Elise, and Alina are staying with the seniors. It is really nice to just hang out and watch movies together.
Tonight (Wednesday night), we will be heading over to Coach Bob's house for our annual Holiday party and dinner. It is really nice to have a special dinner with all the girls, coaches, and coaches families. We really enjoy playing with all the kids and just spending time together outside the gym. Though we won't be exchanging gifts this year it will still be a lot of fun.
The most exciting part of this week though will be Saturday. We are going to have our second intra-squad of the season. This time there will be a judge coming to critique our routines and let us know what we need to work on before our first meet. It is going to be exciting to see what the line-ups are going to be like and see how everyone competes with the judge there. We have been looking really good in the gym and have been working a lot on our landings. The past two practices we have set goals for how many sticks we need to get on each event and it has really helped us focus on our landings.
I hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year celebration. Don't forget to check online and see how we do at our first meet January 8 at Oregon State. Thanks for reading and GO ILLINI!!!
