Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's 12th edition, freshman Alina Weinstein talks about Thanksgiving break, the team's intrasquad meet and Sunday's Mixed Pairs Exhibition at Huff Hall.
Hey Illini Fans!
We have just come back from Thanksgiving Break, and we're all getting super excited for the upcoming events this month. While the school was on break, all of the dormers roomed with the upperclassmen in their apartments. It was really nice because we all got to bond before we left for home. However, before we left we had an intrasquad and for the first time we were broken up into two teams; orange and blue. The atmosphere in the gym was crazy, and we were all cheering and yelling for each other regardless of what team we were on. As a whole, we were pretty pleased with how it all turned out.
This week we have a couple things to look forward to. We are all very excited for Mixed Pairs coming up on Sunday, and rumor has it that we may see our team posters for this coming season, so we are all keeping our fingers crossed. We also just found out who our partners are from the men's team! One of the many traditions the Illini have is to get our partners gifts so we are all still trying to figure out what to get our boys. I still don't know what to get my partner, Dan Ribeiro, but hopefully it will come to me soon. Mixed Pairs is just a small milestone marking the very beginning of season. After Sunday, we will have one more week of school and then final exams. After finals we will be able to go home for about ten days to see our families for the holidays. When we get back from our break, the season will finally be here and we can hardly wait! January 8th will be the official start of our competitive season in Corvallis, Oregon.
For now we are keeping things in perspective. We have so much to look forward to but we still have a lot of preparation to do so that we can fine tune our routines. There is a month left before the most exciting part of the year begins, and it's just one of the many reasons I can say I love being an Illini!
Thanks for reading and GO ILLINI!
