CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Head coach Kim Landrus and the Fighting Illini women's gymnastics staff announced the addition of two gymnasts for the 2014-15 season. Both Bridget Hodan and Jordyn Givens signed their national letters of intent on Wednesday to become part of the Illinois family.
"While both of our signees are very different in nature, the qualities that each will bring to the table is truly exciting," Landrus said. "Their goals align with the philosophy of our program and both are eager to come in and make a stamp on the program. They understand the true meaning of student-athlete and are eager to be an Illini in all aspects."
Notes: Four-time Level 10 National Qualifier ... Fifth place on beam at the 2013 Junior Olympic Nationals ... Three top-three finishes at the Level 10 Region IV Championships (2nd - beam and floor, 3rd - all-around) ... 2013 Wisconsin State vault, floor and all-around champion ... 2012 Level 10 National 3rd place finish on beam, 9th on floor, and 14th in the all-around ... 2012 Region IV beam champion and Wisconsin State bar, beam and all-around champion.
Coach Landrus Says: "We are thrilled about adding Bridget to our Illini Family. She is an accomplished athlete that brings many attributes to the table. She is a consistent competitor that has a style that is fun to watch. She excels on beam and floor, but really has no weak event. I am confident that she will make an immediate impact to our program and her work ethic will consistently elevate her to new heights."
Why Hodan chose Illinois: "I chose the University of Illinois because it offers a great balance of strong athletic and academic programs. Both the coaching staff and the team were very welcoming and made me feel at home. "
What Hodan enjoyed most on her visit to Illinois: "I enjoyed spending time with the girls and the coaches. Watching the team practice made me very excited to be a future Illini."

Notes: 2013 Level 10 JO Nationals qualifier ... Finished in top five in all four events and in the all-around at the 2013 Level 10 Region III Regionals (3rd - all-around and floor, 4th - vault, 5th - bars and beam) ... Achieved a 9th place all-around finish at the 2013 Level 10 State Championships.
Coach Landrus Says: "Jordyn has both the personality and talent to be a very influential member of our team next year. She is all orange and blue and cannot wait for her collegiate career to begin. I believe Jordyn has a lot of potential still in her and will continue to improve throughout her college career. Her love and desire for the sport is evident in every conversation I have with her. She is enthusiastic and wants to do well all the time. We are so glad that she will be joining us next year."
Why Givens chose Illinois: "I chose Illinois for many different reasons. The openness and honesty of the coaching staff during the recruiting process was phenomenal. I felt an instant connection and just knew Illinois is where I wanted to spend the next four years competing. Meeting the team later just confirmed my decision. The campus is so alive, the school has such tremendous academic programs and is so well respected, and the opportunity to become an 'Illini family member' is something I could not pass up."
What Givens enjoyed most on her visit to Illinois: "I enjoyed staying in the dorms with my future teammates, and while on campus, seeing how much Illini pride the school has."
