Illini Ink: Women's Gymnastics Online Journal Week 9
Nov. 12, 2008
Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this week's edition, freshman Hannah Welker talks about preparation for the approaching competition season, the Illinois wrestling and football teams, and Thanksgiving.
Hey Illini Fans!
Well, November is here and so is the cold weather. All of the girls and I are definitely getting used to the cooler temperatures, but Lashlee and Alyssa, our two Florida girls, are still shivering as winter is fast approaching.
As winter is coming soon, so is the competition season. Everyone is so excited and motivated in the gym for meet season to be here... there are only 8 more practices before our intra-squad competition, and about 13 practices before Mixed Pairs!! All of the girls are working extremely hard on every event and cannot wait to show everyone what Illini Domination is all about.
This past weekend was a lot of fun. Many of the girls went to Huff to cheer on the Illini wrestlers as they had their first meet, wrestle-offs. It was really cool to watch since I had never been to a wrestling meet before. They did a great job and we wish them luck as they travel to North Carolina this week for their first real competition.
After the weekend, it was another busy week. However, with our variety of conditioning, it makes workouts a little easier. Yesterday, we had spinning again with Lesa, which is always a blast because she is so upbeat and happy for a 6:30 AM workout! Bob calls it our "Tour de France".
As the weekend arrives, we have some fun plans in store. Laura is so nice and turned in all of our football vouchers early, in order for us to get tickets close to the field for the big game against Ohio State this Saturday. It should be an awesome game (and a cold one too!). We are all excited to bundle up and cheer on our Illini to victory!
After this weekend, we really only have one week left until we all go our separate ways and head home for Thanksgiving! It will be exciting to see our families and to spend time giving thanks for all that we have. After we get back from break, season basically begins! Everyone is psyched to see what this 2009 team has to bring to the floor... it should be an exciting ride!
Well, thanks for reading!
Until next time,
