Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's 10th edition, junior Samantha Perino talks about workouts at practice, Thanksgiving break plans and Dad's Weekend.
HELLO ILLINI FANS!!
The cold weather is finally here after a beautiful weekend. It was nice while it lasted considering it is already November! As you get older it seems like every year just goes by faster and faster, with that being said, it is unreal that there are only two weeks left until Thanksgiving break which also means two weeks until intra-squad. Workouts are definitely getting more intense in the gym to get us fully prepared for the beginning of season. With the increase intensity everyone is starting to look strong and confident in their gymnastics. We're beginning to compete full routines in practice so we can get a feel for what it is like in a real meet situation. Being put under pressure in practice is the best way to prepare for our upcoming season and our annual Mixed Pairs Invitational which is only about 25 days away!
During Thanksgiving break the sophomores and the freshmen will be staying with the upperclassmen in our apartments since the dorms are closed. This gives us a chance to live together and become closer as we move toward season. It's always a nice break for the dormers to get away and get a feel for the apartment life. We always know how to make it fun.
Everyone in the gym is so excited about this upcoming weekend because it is "Dad's Weekend" here at Illinois! Overall there should be about 20 or more parents, alumni parents, and siblings at our tailgate this Saturday which starts at 7:30 a.m.!! As Lashlee stated before there was an e-mail list for the tailgate and there will be a plethora of delicious food I am sure! After the tailgate some of the group will head to the football game to cheer on the Illini against Northwestern. Hopefully their winning streak will continue on to this weekend.
Pray for no rain this weekend and thanks for reading! Go Illini!
