Illini Ink: Women's Gymnastics Online Journal Week 9
Nov. 5, 2009
Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's ninth edition, junior Lashlee Morris discusses preseason practice, the team's Halloween costumes and preparations for Dad's weekend.
Hey there Illini Fans!
It's that time of year! The weather is changing and the season is sneaking up very quickly! There are only three more weeks until we have our intrasquad meet before we go home for Thanksgiving. Workouts in the gym are really picking up. We're working full beam routines, bar routines up to the dismount, floor routines with two real tumbling passes, and vaults onto mats that are competition height. The girls are looking good and routines are coming along really well. It's a good feeling to be on the "upper-classman" side of things to help the freshman along through their first preseason. They're doing well, working hard, and seem to be getting the hang of the college schedule.
Our Halloween practice was a ton of fun! The girls were very creative with their costumes. Laura and Sarah gave Al and I Double Mint Gum costumes. One of my other favorites was Hannah's partner dressing her as Hannah Montana. To fully appreciate all our costumes you'll have to visit our photo gallery! This year our Halloween beam and vault assignments were made into games that allowed us to win candy prizes! Everyone was super excited about that part. ☺
All of the girls are getting really excited for Dad's weekend. I know it's still a week and a half away, but there is a lot of talk about our parents. Even some of the alumni's parents are coming for Dad's weekend. All the parents are so cute! They got together and made an e-mail list of our favorite things to bring to the tailgate before the Northwestern game. They are pulling out all the stops!
That's about all for now. Thanks for reading! Have a fantastic week and go Illini!
