Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this week's edition, freshman Lashlee Morris talks about Illinois' weather, Illini football against Michigan, and the intensity of practice following fall break.

    ----

Hi, I'm Lashlee and I am a freshman from Leesburg, Florida. Now that the semester is in full swing, I definitely think I am adjusting to college life. The weather is changing constantly, but this time I think it's staying cold for good, no more Florida weather in Illinois! I'm finally getting to experience what I have been hearing so much about, winter! And yes, I know it is just the beginning, but I have to admit I can't wait to make a snow angel!

Things are heating back up again with school, more exams and midterms. The girls are doing a good job with their school workloads. This has been a major adjustment coming into college, but the girls on the team and the coaches have helped the freshmen with the transition.

Last weekend was Fall Break. The team was able to rest and get ahead on school work. A few girls went home for the long weekend to visit with their families. However, the majority of us went to the Illini football game against Michigan on Saturday. Marijka's (Botterman) family brought an RV so we got to tailgate with them. It was a lot of fun! A bunch of the girls on the team were able to get great seats in the front row. It was so exciting being able to watch the game that close. Illinois football has been doing great this season and I wish them luck for their upcoming game against Ball State!

Fall break did just what Krystal said it would, got everyone on the team pumped up! The energy and work level in the gym definitely stepped up a notch this week after returning from break. All the girls came back rested and ready to go. We started skill sets on floor to work our endurance. It was only the first day, but we were pretty impressed with how they went. Beam routines were done as well, so we've enjoyed being able to do all our skills with dance now. Season will be here before we know it...our countdown poster of the days until our first meet, Mixed Pairs, is keeping everyone motivated each day we walk in Kenney Gym.

Everything is wonderful with the Illini family! Thanks for reading and I hope everyone has a great week!

    GO ILLINI!!!
