Illini Ink: Women's Gymnastics Online Journal Week 5
Oct. 17, 2008
Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this week's edition, junior Sarah Schmidt talks about progress in the gym, community service events, and the Illlinois football game against Indiana.
Hello Illini Gymnastics Fans!! I can't believe October is almost over which means season is just around the corner! It's exciting to see everyone putting their routines together. Amy and Mazza have been working hard to put new choreography in the girls beam and floor routines. The energy in the gym is really high and we are all looking forward to showing everyone what we have been working on.
Last weekend, the team got together and made a DOMINATE banner to hang in the gym. It was a fun team activity and although we are not artists, the banner turned out quite well.
Outside the gym, we are keeping equally as busy. The team has been participating in multiple community service events. This afternoon, a few of the girls went to an elementary school to hang out with kids who were able to raise $200 in the Dawg Walk!! Wow, good work kids!! Some girls also participated in a speed reading contest to help raise money for books for under privileged children. The girls were up against the Greek system and the gymnasts came out on top! Way to go team!
This weekend the Illini football team has a chance to redeem themselves in the Big Ten when they face the Indiana Hoosiers. Earlier this week, Laura collected everyone's vouchers to make sure we were up close for the big event! We are all pumped for the game. The atmosphere is quite a site with all the fans sporting orange and chanting ILL-INI!!!! But, before the game we will be participating in a can drive as we collect cans for the local food pantry...what a good cause.
It should be a great Illini weekend as we cheer not only for football, but also for all the other teams who are competing this weekend!!!!
Thank you for reading. GO ILLINI!
