Illini Ink: Women's Gymnastics Online Journal Week 5
Oct. 14, 2010
Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's fifth edition, senior Samantha Perino talks about the summer-like weather in Champaign, a relaxing weekend and the first intrasquad competition.
Well hey there Illini Fans!
It may be October right now but it sure still feels like the middle of August here in Champaign! We never expected it to be this warm this time of year, especially after last weekend's chilly tailgate! Although I'm sure in no time all of the girls will be pulling out their boots and North Face apparel for the cold weather that is soon to come!
This past Saturday all of us got to relax and watch our Illini Football team play Penn State. We ended up winning the game which was very exciting to say the least since this was the first time we won at Penn State! Whoo hoo! Go Illini! This weekend we did not really have anything planned out like we did last weekend but we all just got to relax, catch up on homework, and do our own thing which is always a plus!
This Sunday at practice we got a pleasant surprise brought upon us! We actually had our first intrasquad!! The intrasquad included bars and beam and everyone on the team did really well. The atmosphere in the gym was awesome and everyone was having a great time. It felt good to have a surprise intrasquad because hopefully that will help calm our nerves when we have other intrasquads in the future. It also felt good to do something together as a team. I feel like we all worked well together and I am really excited for the upcoming season! I think we all got an extra kick of motivation after the intrasquad to work even harder in the gym as pre-season goes on!
Thanks for reading and GO ILLINI!
