Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's fifth edition, freshman Macy Hyatt discusses her easy adjustment to life at Illinois and this week's Homecoming festivities.
Hello Illini Fans!
I am a freshman on the gymnastics team here at U of I! I have been here for over a month and feel as if I am exactly where I should be. Illinois is the perfect home away from home, but it couldn't have happened without my wonderful coaches and teammates providing that comfort.
This week is homecoming week, and it has been a lot of fun seeing everyone walk around showing their school spirit. On Monday, part of the band came into the dining halls and several students stood up and joined them by dancing and singing. I love how involved everyone is around campus and I am so happy to be able to be a part of such a wonderful environment.
Official practices are going extremely well. We are all working really hard and staying positive and loud, while being sure to continue cheering each other on as we keep improving our gymnastics. I know this season is going to be a great success and I cannot wait for Mixed Pairs, where a few of us will debut some new skills.
I am looking forward to a great end of the week and weekend! Make sure you keep up the school spirit as we take on Michigan State Saturday for our homecoming football game!
Thanks for reading and have a fantastic day, GO ILLINI!
