Sarah Schmidt vs. Auburn in 2007
Oct. 4, 2007
Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this week's edition, sophomore Sarah Schmidt talks about how busy the team has been, fun at football games and Dad's Weekend coming up.
Wow! I can't believe its October already. Fall break is just around the corner. The past couple weeks the girls have been working hard in school. We have been studying a lot for midterms, working on projects, and writing papers. Most of the girls are just finishing up midterms, so things should slow down a little for a while.
Inside the gym everyone has been working hard. We are all adjusting to official practice and looking really good. A couple of the girls are recovering from some injuries, but are working hard at rehab and staying positive. I've been really impressed with each and every girl on the team. A lot of girls have learned new skills that are awesome! The freshman and juniors are getting their floor routines done within the next few weeks. I can't wait for routines to begin because I know how well everyone will transition into them. This season should be a fun one!
Outside the gym we have been staying busy as well. This morning half of the team went to Robeson Elementary School to walk the kids to school. We got to wait at the bus stops for the kids to get off and then walk them to school. It brought back memories of waiting for the bus when we were little. The kids were great and its always fun to do things that bring out the kid in us again!
Also, football season has been really exciting around here. Last weekend when we upset Penn State the whole team was in the student section going crazy! Suki (Cowart) and Laura (Woolf) even made up their own cheer that we were all doing. It was so fun! This year we have already won as many games as in the last two years combined so the whole campus is getting excited and all the games are sellouts. This weekend is a huge game against Wisconsin...my home state. I'm really looking forward to winning so I can rub it in to all my Badger friends back home!
In addition to the big game this weekend, it's also Dad's Weekend, so almost all of our parents are going to be coming for the game. We're all so excited! Dad's weekend is always a great time for everyone.
I hope everyone has a great week! Thanks for reading. GO ILLINI!!!
