Freshman Elise Gill
Oct. 1, 2009
Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's fourth edition, freshman Elise Gill recaps the team's start of practice, Tuesday spin classes and dinners at the dorm.
I'm a freshman on the Illinois gymnastics team and I am having a blast! After being here for a little over a month, I'm beginning to understand why people say these are some of the best years of your life. Champaign really feels like my home now, I can't imagine being anywhere else!
The girls on the team have really made my experience remarkable thus far. They are so much fun! I thought that I would have a hard time adjusting to being so far away from home but the girls accepted me right away and brought me into their family. I love every minute I spend with them.
We have had official practice for almost two weeks now and I definitely enjoy it much more than unofficial practice. At the end of every day, it is so satisfying knowing that I completed my assignments and became that much better by doing so.
I know in past journal entries, the girls have talked about our Tuesday morning spinning class. I know you have heard this before, but WOW - it is so much fun. This week, we got to watch music videos while we worked out...talk about motivating. I went further than I had ever gone before, 27 miles!
Out of the gym, life is good too. There's nothing better than finishing up practice and heading to the dorms to have dinner with my teammates. It is so nice to feel like I am with my family at the dinner table. We all talk about our day, relax, and hang out. To tell you the truth, I don't know if I have ever laughed more than I do at dinner. It's always a blast.
I'm looking forward to a great week, GO ILLINI!
Thanks for reading, have a great day!
