Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's second edition, senior Melissa Fernandez recaps a fun weekend of football/soccer games, a scavenger hunt and a bake off.

Hey Illini Fans!

What a great weekend it was!! The Illini football team added another win to their record, and we had a fun-filled weekend of amazing recruiting activities. On Friday night we attended the women's Illini soccer game vs. LSU, where they scored the winning goal in the last few minutes of the game.

After, we were split up into three teams and completed a scavenger hunt all over the south end of campus! Each team had a video camera and recorded the answers to the locations of each clue. At the end of the scavenger hunt, we headed to Kenney Gym to watch the videos and boy were they hilarious! It was a great bonding experience for all involved.

The next day, our team spent the morning cheering on the Illini to a victory and spent the evening with the best activity we've ever done--a bake off!! Again, we were split up into three teams and were given an envelope with three different recipes to choose from. We had a limited amount of time so we rushed to the nearest grocery store, bought our ingredients, cooked our yummy snacks and met up at Kim's house. There, we weren't allowed to see the other groups' finished project until each team had recorded a 30 second commercial advertising their product. These commercials turned out to be ridiculously funny.

In the gym, we've had about a week of official practices and things couldn't be going any better. The high-energy atmosphere makes for great workouts and as a team we are really building up an amazing chemistry. Looking ahead, most of us are very excited for the next home football game because our families, and alumni gymnasts and their families will be in town for our annual gymnastics tailgate. This year Laura Woolf's parents put the event together and it's bound to be a great time filled with laughs, excitement, and quality family time.

Until next week, ILL-INI!
