Four Women's Gymnasts Tabbed Scholastic All-Americans

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) announced their 2013 Scholastic All-American award winners in both the team and individual categories with four Illini earning a spot on the list. All four classes were represented as senior Elise Gill, junior Sarah Fiedler, sophomore Nikki McGarel and freshman Tori Fujinami all earned GPA's of 3.5 or better for the past academic year.
Gill, an industrial engineer, achieved a 3.84 and was recognized for the third time in her four year career at Illinois. Fiedler, who knotted her first Scholastic All-American award, also earned All-Big Ten honors while accomplishing a 3.57 in Accounting. Fiedler hit 24-26 routines last season, including eight top-five finishes. Lastly, McGarel earned a 3.67 GPA while Fujinami achieved a perfect 4.0 in Electrical Engineering while contributing her floor routine in the final six meets of the season.
525 women's gymnasts across the country in all three NCAA divisions hit the 3.5 benchmark this past year. As a team, Illinois increased their team GPA from a 3.26 to a 3.3.
