Amy Kruse Joins Fighting Illini Women's Gymnastics Program
Aug. 15, 2006 CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - University of Illinois women's gymnastics head coach Bob Starkell announced today the hiring of Amy Kruse as the new assistant coach for the women's gymnastics program. Kruse comes to Champaign from the Phoenix Gymnastics Academy in Phoenix, Ariz. As the new assistant coach, Kruse will primarily deal with the floor exercise and choreography. She will also play a key role in all-around and uneven bars training. "Amy will bring excitement and energy with her coaching style," said Starkell. "Her knowledge as a club coach and top level college competitor will help us achieve our ultimate goals. " Kruse comes from the Phoenix Gymnastics Academy in Phoenix, Ariz. where she choreographed routines for optional gymnasts, and coached all levels. "This is what I've been wanting to do since I got out of college." said Kruse. "This is a great opportunity for me and my family." Kruse served as a gymnastics coach for the Phoenix Gymnastics Academy from August 2004 until June 2006. She was a volunteer coach at the University of Nebraska in 2002, where she competed and earned her undergraduate degree. As a gymnast, Kruse competed as a Cornhusker from 1998-2001. She was a three time Super Six team qualifier and Second Team All-American, FX. A four-year letterwinner, Kruse won the Co-Most Improved Gymnast in 2000. She had career highs of 39.25 on all-around, 9.85 on vault, 9.825 on uneven bars, 9.925 on balance beam, and 9.95 on floor exercise.
