Illini Ink: Women's Gymnastics Online Journal Week 27
April 8, 2010
Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's 27th edition, junior Allison Buckley recaps the team's intrasquad meet from over the weekend and looks ahead to this weekend's NCAA Central Regional.
Hey there Illini Fans! I hope everyone is having a great week and enjoying the weather as much as we have been here in Champaign. Minus a few little storms we have really enjoyed some great sunshine. The only bad thing about all of the sunshine is that it has made the gym a little warm the past few days.
Despite the warm gym we have really been working hard in practice. We are trying to pick up on the small details and really work on our expression for our next meet. On Friday and Saturday we had a two day intra-squad where we competed two events each day.
On Friday we competed floor and bars. We started off pretty strong on bars but we missed a few landings so we've been picking up on dismount work this week in practice. Then we went to floor and performed well. The one thing Amy really wanted us to work on was our expression throughout our routines. On Monday we really worked on our dance and it has shown the last few days in our floor routines.
On Saturday we competed vault and beam. Again we were pretty solid and only found some smaller details that needed to be worked on for the week. Landings were again something that we needed to improve on so we have been practicing our sticks all week in practice.
Today we will be heading to Kentucky for our Regional Competition. In Kentucky we will be competing for a trip to the NCAA National Championships in Florida. The top two teams in our Regional will have a bid to NCAA's. As a team we are hoping to make our second consecutive trip to Nationals. With all of the hard work that we have put in we know that we can perform with the best. We hope that you all will be following us through our competition this weekend and cheering us on. Thanks for reading and GO ILLINI!
