Illini Ink: Women's Gymnastics Online Journal Week 22
March 16, 2011
Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's 22nd edition, sophomore Alina Weinstein recaps the State of Illinois Classic and looks ahead to this weekend's Big Ten Championships in Minnesota.
Hey Illini Fans!
This past weekend was so exciting for our team. As you all know, we broke our school record at the State of Illinois Classic and put up a 196.975! In addition we also broke our beam record, which we previously set three weekends ago at Michigan State and Allison Buckley broke her All-Around record. As Kim said, we treated the State Classic as a "rough draft" for Big Tens on Saturday. We are all very pleased with our performances and like we always say after every meet, we still have so much room for improvement. Coming off of such an incredible meet is definitely a confidence booster and I can't wait to bring all of the energy to the arena this Saturday in Minnesota.
We are all very excited for Big Tens not only because it is everyone's favorite meet of the year but because all of our families come and all the Dad's bring out their orange and blue overalls for championship season. Along with the overalls, last year some of the boys drove to Ohio State and painted their faces for the meet. It is so awesome to look up into the stands amidst all of the other fans and see my favorite colors; obviously orange and blue☺. This meet is so thrilling and everyone brings their best gymnastics. We are all so excited for this weekend because ultimately this is what we have been working so hard for.
Thanks for reading, and make sure you tune in this weekend to see coverage of the Big Ten Championships on the Big Ten network live on Saturday at 2:00 pm CT.
